S.A.P.I. - Substance, Abuse, Prevention, Intervention
HISTORY
Friends of
Yates, Inc.,
is a new
birth of
Yates branch
YWCA.
Yates
Branch
served as a
branch of
the YWCA in
Kansas City,
Kansas from
1913 until
1982.
After
the vote of
the YWCA to
close the
branch,
Friends of
Yates, Inc.,
became its
legal
governing
body.
PHILOSOPHY
It is
our
philosophy
that the
solution to
the problem
of substance
abuse among
our youth
and victims
of Domestic
Violence requires an
all-out
effort by
all entities
that are
capable of
effecting
change.
Families,
schools,
communities,
businesses
and
religious
organizations
all must
help
eradicate
this
problem.
Friends of
Yates,
provides a
comprehensive
approach
that brings
together
many
resources
within the
community to
motivate and
develop
positive
attitudes
and
behaviors
among our
youth
victims of
Domestic
Violence.
We
believe that
abuse of
alcohol and
other drugs
interferes
with an
individuals
physiological,
psychological
and
intellectual
growth.
GOAL
To encourage
youth by
exposing
them to a
drug free,
positive and
healthy
environment
and
productive
way of life.
AWARENESS
Youth
under the
age of 20
are twice as
likely to be
imprisoned
for violent
crimes,
three times
as likely to
experience
depression
and four
times as
likely to
attempt
suicide once
substance
abuse begins
as compared
to those
whose
substance
abuse begins
later in
life.
Use
of alcohol
and other
drugs among
youth puts
their
physiological,
intellectual
and social
functioning
at risk.
One-third of
all American
teens have
serious
health,
school,
legal and/
or social
difficulties
related to
their use of
alcohol and
drugs.
